Meet Dr. Ryan Thacher
Sports Medicine Specialist

Dr. Thacher earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons as a Dean’s Scholar and graduated as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery, where he received the Lewis Clark Wagner Award for Excellence in Translational Research.

He then completed a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at HSS, serving as a co-chief administrative fellow and as an assistant team physician for the New York Mets and New York 
Red Bulls. His experiences as a top collegiate and professional athlete give him unique insight into the demands of high-level sports and inform his approach to helping athletes and active 
patients return to peak performance safely and efficiently.

Dr. Thacher is deeply committed to advancing the field of orthopedic surgery through research. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles and continues to actively engage in research endeavors, focusing on innovations in sports medicine, surgical techniques, and strategies to improve patient outcomes.

A native of Los Angeles, California, Dr. Thacher graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Stanford University in 2012. He played on the Men’s Tennis team all four years, earning three-time All-American honors and serving as team captain during his junior and senior seasons. 

After Stanford, he competed professionally, achieving a top 1000 world ranking in Men’s singles and a top 550 ranking in Men’s doubles, winning four doubles titles
